Those are mostly the overworld themes, which is a good thing, since these are what you'll be hearing the most and the longest. From plenty of very sad and depressing tunes - which is in itself a great achievement what Kikuta managed to get out of the SNES sound chip here - to the rather cheerful ones that make you hum along. Looking at the whole soundtrack, there is a lot of variety to be found here. I love the intro music, probably my favorite intro music, maybe together with Chrono Cross', just a shame they butchered the actual intro in the Western version (which is why I used the Japanese title screen here), can't have all I guess.

There's no tension or anything involved, so let's start right away with my #1:įirst, the most important bit. Okay, with all that out of the way, let's get started. It's just a habit I kept from when I made that (deleted) music quiz thread. But then again, don't have to tell most people reading this thread about that. Just a reminder that video game music doesn't just consist of YouTube links, but there are actual albums out there you can buy. The images link to the corresponding album on the wonderful VGMdb website, at least for the games I could find an OST release for. Oh, and I love battle music, so don't be surprised if RPGs with great battle music get priority treatment here.

A bit later than promised, in part Vodafone is to blame for that.Īs a reminder: I only put one game per series in my top 10 list to increase variety - well at least in game series, genre-wise this list is still pretty much dominated by RPGs and it's mostly SNES games, sorry about that - so some games didn't make the cut that would have made it if judged solely by their soundtrack's quality.
